Family Information
---Childbirth, Schools and Japanese Classes---

On occasions such as when you have a baby or you want to send your child to school, you are required to go through certain procedures at City Hall.

CHILDBIRTH

MOTHER AND CHILD HEALTH HANDBOOK

l
When you give birth in Japan, the Health Office issues a book known as the Mother and Child Health Handbook (Boshi Kenko Techo), which enables you to get medical check-ups for both the mother and the child. To be issued this book, please complete a Pregnancy Notification form at the Health and Sanitation Section (TEL 242-1131) or at Izumino Welfare and Health Center (TEL 220-2232).

NOTIFICATION OF BIRTH

When your child is born, you need to have your physician or midwife certify the birth and submit a notification of birth to the Citizen's section in City Hall (TEL 220-2241) within 14 days of the birth. Also, within 30 days, you must inform the Kanazawa branch of the Nagoya Immigration Office (TEL 222-2450).
In addition,
please notify your nearest embassy or consulate and apply for the child’s passport.

CHILD EDUCATION

DAY-CARE CENTERS

EDUCATION SYSTEM

The Japanese education system has six years of primary (elementary) education, 3 years of intermediate (junior high), and three years of secondary (senior high).
