Hospitals and Emergencies You can receive medical care at hospitals or clinics, in many cases, without prior appointment. Normally dental clinics require an appointment. However, since some hospitals accept first-visit patients only in the morning, it is necessary to check their hours before you go to hospital. If you join the National Health Insurance Program, please remember to take your National Insurance Card on your visit to hospital/clinic and show this at the reception desk. Basic medicines, such as medicines for cold, digestive medicine, pain killers and compresses are sold at pharmacies and do not require a prescription. Health Service Center (1F Main Building, Kakuma Campus) offers first-aid treatment, routine medical checkups for students, provides general health advice, introducing hospitals. The center is available for anyone who belong to the university.
Foreign residents planning to stay more than 1 year must join the National Health Insurance plan unless you are enrolled in an insurance plan at work. There is a monthly fee, but you only need to pay 30% of the total cost of medical treatment and hospitalization. Family members also bear 30% of their medical fees. However, some dental procedures and some instances of hospitalization may not be covered, so be sure to inquire at the hospital before you undergo treatment. For details, contact the office of your faculty.
