LIVING IN KANAZAWA

Housing in Kanazawa City

Housing is provided by the University and privately. However, since space is limited for university housing, many live in private apartments around the campus.

In general, Japanese houses have two types of rooms; one is a room with tatami mats covering the floor (a Japanese style room) and the other is a room with carpeted or wooden floor. The room size is often described by the number of tatami mats that can cover the floor. Even a Western style room sometimes uses this measure. For example, an eight-mat room means a room with floor space for eight tatami mats, equaling to 13.23 square meters.

When you enter a house or apartment, it is customary to take off your shoes inside the front door.

Here is general information of University housing and private ones.
